MASS TOURISM IN MOUNT EVEREST When we consider the topic of mass tourism in Mount Everest, the first thing that comes to mind is economic growth and better social integration based on modernization. But, is mass tourism in Mount Everest really the best option when it comes to enhance local living conditions? This essay will look into the advantages and disadvantages of mass tourism in Mount Everest. Many argue that mass tourism in Mount Everest is the wisest choice, as it allows local people to create their own wealth and become economically independent and there is no denying that mass tourism is also a reasonable course of action for those who wish to be socially integrated and revamped. Yet, there are factors like crowded places and deforestation that should be taken into account in order to make the best choice. There is much more to life that wealth and status. According to the latest research, 75% of Nepalese value the preservation of environment over economic growth. Also, if you consider the fact of crowded places play a crucial role in their personal lifestyle, then, mass tourism in Mount Everest does not seem to be such a great idea after all. Moreover, the adverse impact of mass tourism has two additional major disadvantages, namely worsening of climate change effects and the loss of their own identity. If climate change ranks high on your priority list, then mass tourism in Mount Everest should definitely be out of question. And last but certainly not least, the must consider whether the loss of their identity is an issue for them. If so, then, the monitoring of mass tourism in Mount Everest is likely to be much better option for them. To sum up, although on the face of it mass tourism sounds like a good idea when it comes to improve local living conditions, a more in-depth analysis suggests otherwise. In fact, most evidence points to the fact that if crowded places, deforestation, loss of identity and worsening climate change effects are what you are after, then controlled tourism in Mount Everest will probably work best for them. |
